The Resilient Families Program (RFP) is an 8-week parent education program designed to help parents & children thrive.
It is an innovative community-based program designed for families to strengthen children’s resilience by focusing on three building blocks of resilience: attachment, executive function skills (emotion regulation, behavior regulation, and problem solving), and stress reduction through mindfulness strategies. Research shows us that children who face stress and adversity can show signs of resilience and exhibit positive trajectories in cognitive, emotional, and health outcomes if these building blocks are developed.
RFP is an 8-week parent and child education program designed to help families thrive. Parents in the RFP program meet once a week in person or online via Zoom. Depending on the setting, early childhood teachers or CSUF interns are trained to implement the child curriculum. Parent sessions involve discussions implemented in multiple formats, games, role-playing, and mindfulness activities. Parents are assigned home activities to continue their exploration of program themes. Child sessions include reading books relevant to the weekly theme and playing games that improve mindfulness and executive function skills. All families receive books and/or games to use to practice their new skills.
